Topsy Tervy Scarecrow Pots

It’s me again. I’m sorry it’s been a little while since my last craft tutorial, you know how summer is. The kids go back to school soon and this year Echo is going to (sad face). She has been my little side kick for so long, I’m going to be sad without her. On the plus side for you guys, I will have more time to share fun tutorials- YAY!!

I am so excited because fall is my favorite time of the year, give pumpkin flavored anything and fall decorations and I’m there. SO, I just couldn’t help myself, I had to start decorating early and it will probably keep going until I run out of room to put things.

Get your material list ready:

  • Terra cotta pots ( I used 4 but you can use more)
  • Dowel rod or rebar ( you can add more pots with rebar because its longer)
  • Paint brushes
  • dirt, mulch or rocks
  • Real or fake flowers
  • Paint ( I used acrylic in the colors tan, black, white, and orange)
  • E6000 glue (optional)
  • Clear top coat spray paint (optional)

Once you have everything  ready it’s time to get started.

Painted Terra Cotta Pot

Paint all of your pots tan and Plan out how you want the face to look. I just sort of winged it.

They all look a little different but I think it just gives them a little character.

Hammer your dowel rod or rebar into the ground. Make sure it is far enough in to stay sturdy. Then put your first pot on the the rod and fill it with dirt, mulch, or rocks. You will want to use dirt if your using real flowers. After that add another pot and tilt it to one side ( you can glue it in place with your E6000) and fill it with whatever you choose. Add flowers and repeat back and forth until you have added all of your pots. I used protective spray paint for a shiny finish and to keep the paint from wearing in the weather.

And you have a fun festive fall decoration.

I have also started making a few other fall decorations.

Painted garden gnome

I found this little guy at Walmart on clearance for $4. We got 2 and painted them fall colors.

What do you think about this fall pallet ? It needs another coat of paint but I think I like it.

These are so adorable! It’s good to know that they’re easy to make too, but I have a feeling that my cat would knock them over just in a few minutes!
