Sea Shell Art

We went to Myrtle Beach last summer, while we were there the kids collected a bunch of shells. They have been in a dish on a book shelf ever since. Kinky (the cat) occasionally knocks them off and I find them all over the floor, so today I decided to use some of them to do crafts with the kids. We made turtles and flowers. Wyatt made some kind of shell monster that eventually crashed into something and fell apart.

For this project you will need:

  • Shells
  • Paint
  • Hot Glue or other strong adhesive
  • Craft foam sheets
  • Cardboard
  • Something to make eyes on your turtle
  • Scissors
  • Magnet (optional)

*Please supervise and assist children with anything hot or sharp during this project*

Lets get started!

Cut a small piece of cardboard into a circle, put glue on and add shells like in the picture. Paint and let dry.

Echo loves when she gets to paint.

Paint another shell and glue the bottom of it to the other shells.

Now for the turtles take a shell and use it to make the bottom piece. Trace it and cut it out.

Cut out 1 head with a long neck, 4 legs and a little triangle tail.

Glue them all to the big piece of foam. Paint your shell so it will have time to dry before gluing it on.

Glue the shell and foam piece together, add the eyes and Ta-Da!

We added magnets to the back so they all can go on the refrigerator.

    Super cute shell art!

I love Myrtle Beach. We’re in NC, so we typically go there a few times a year. And every year I have to stop at the Christmas Shop at Barefoot Landing 🙂
