I know this tutorial is a couple days overdue but I ran into a couple set backs. I can officially say that I got it right now. Before we get started I do have to be honest and say that sadly I do not have a garden, I want to grow one but we want to move at some point so I have been holding off. I will defiantly use this apron one day though. So its kind of like those jeans we all keep for that day we will fit into them again.
- 1 yard of main fabric
- 1/2 to 1 yard of contrasting fabric for the strap
- sewing machine
- 13-15 inches of elastic
Start by measuring your waist and add 20 inches to that. You may need to cut and sew together 2 long strips depending on how long you need. Take the fabric that you will be using for the waist band and measure the length you need and the wight should be 11 inches. cut and fold the fabric in half long ways. Put right sides together and sew all the way down. Turn it right side out, iron it flat. serge or turn under and sew the ends shut and set aside.
Next take your main fabric and fold it in half to make a half of a yard. Take one of the ends and sew an elastic casing. To do that you just fold over your fabric end twice to hide the raw edge.
Take a safety pin and put it through the elastic and push the pun through the casing you made. Make sure the other end of the elastic does not come through, if it does you will meed to start over. Sew down the edge to secure the elastic on both sides. This should make the fabric bunch up.
Now sew down 2 sides of the folded fabric leaving the top where the elastic open. This should make a big pocket.
When you are done with that turn it right side out. Take the other side without the elastic and fold 2 inch pleats and attach it to the middle of the waist band. Make sure that the middle of the pocket is in the middle of the waist. Do this so you will have fabric on the ends to tie around you waist.
That is what it should look like when you are all done.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy.
