Chicken Wire Heart Decor
I don’t know about you, but I love decorating for Valentine’s day. With 2 guys in the house, it’s my one chance to decorate with pink and hearts. Plus I am all for the extra love and gifts. I have a bunch of fun and inexpensive Valentine’s Day crafts and decor to share with you this year. Today I made this chicken wire heart out of things you may already have in your home. If you don’t already have the materials for this DIY you can find them easily for little cost.
Let’s get started!
- Chicken Wire
- Old frame or scrap wood
- Wire cutters
- Staples and staple gun
- Pliers (optional)
First things first. It’s demolition time, I found 2 busted up pictures so I wanted to take out the broken parts and just use the frame.
I’m sure that I could have found a better way to take this apart, but it was just so much fun to kick it, haha.
If you are worried about getting pricked you should put your gloves on before measuring and cutting your chicken wire ( I never use gloves and always get pricked). Measure your frame and cut your chicken wire accordingly – be sure to leave enough room to attach the wire to the wood. Go around all of the edges and staple making sure to pull it tight. Next, use your pliers to bend down any sharp ends.
You will need to figure out how much fabric you will need for the size heart you are making. I used one yard for a 20×20 inch heart.
You should also think about how much you want to fill it in.
I cut my fabric strips into 2 x 7-inch strips.
Start adding your fabric to the chicken wire like it is shown in the video.
Try to make your heart shape.
Don’t worry too much if there are gaps or if it isn’t straight, you can fix it when it’s time to fill it in.
Kinky wants to help too ( not really, he wants to eat it).
The top of my heart.
A little crooked but I fixed it.
My chicken wire heart is complete. I love it!
I was going to make 2 but I think I will use the other one to pin Valentines to.
What do you think? How would you use the other one? Let me know in the comments below.
